The Mindelo Workshop was focused on the rehabilitation of the city water front and its historical part. The main challenge of this study area was the inundations problem, where after infrequent torrential rains the water stays concentrate on Estrela square (the lowest point of the city) circa three months. The solution presented was the creation of a valley that started in the island mountains surroundings until the sea, generating a water line during the rain periods and a leisure and sport area during the rest of the time. Another urban intervention was the rehabilitation of the petroleum reservoir ENACOL, an abandoned cluster of structures with a massive presence in the image of Mindelo. The idea was to adopt the silos strong figure and concentrate here cultural and tourism programs. Also the market areas, in the Estrela square and adjacent streets, where a significant point for requalification. The recover of the abandonned large historical buildings and the creation of new infrastructures, permits the support of a different variety of markets and stands for street sellers, that serve the inhabitants and tourists.
