hybrid square

This project was an answer for an Ideas Competion about the public squares of tomorrow. The main concept was to develop a hybrid artificial landscape which is a physical barrier but not a visual one. In this way it is possible to create the inherent close character of the old public square, as a central meeting point, and at the same time generate a more contemporary depurated perspective of the space. The overall space is sectioned in dissimilar areas: the two main points are the green amphitheater field and the central pavement area. The natural and the urban character dialogue through the colour bring a positive vibration to the square. The colour lines of the pavement reinforce the geometrical artificial landscape and at the same time work as light system. The clear limits of the square work as a centrifugal machine, turning the users to the centre. The underground level, as the roof top landscape, are flexible amphitheaters for open film projections, concerts and other activities that require this kind of structure. These two spaces also permit a constand usege of the public space, weather is raining other sunny. The idea of an public hybrid square presents different concepts that, once implemented in a certain place could be adapted to the character and ambience of this one and make it unique. Nevertheless, it is important to notice that the existing buildings, the different cultures, ambiences and people, at different times, distinguish the public spaces milieu and bring them in to a constant metamorphose.
