coffee & books oberbilker markt
Oberbilker Markt was a competition (1st place) in Düsseldorf done in cooperation with the landscape office SCAPE, in which they projected the site masterplan and invited us to design the proposed pavilion. The pavilion should maintain the functions of the existing elements in the square. At the some time respond to the different site realities: on one side the metro entrance and a busy square, on the other side a back area with a more neighbourhood character.
The main concept was to link visually this different characters, playing with volumes that "grow" while getting closer to the square and having in attention its distict functions. The lowest volumes work as playground elements: as banks, tables, or boxes. And the other volumes work as rooms of the coffee bar: toilets, kiosk and kitchen. The coffee bar area its limited by glass walls, emphasizing the visual connection idea throught the transpernce, and a lightning roof that opens to the square.
