weisser riese
The town of Kamp-Linfort has been through some urban interventions in order to invest in services that bring more work, buying power and people to the town. One of the most imminent interventions was the destruction of the obsolete Weisser Riese towers, that stood in the center of the town and in one of the extremities of the main commercial street. The plan was, through a competition, to build a shopping center with a regional importance. The preconditions were that the shopping could not have more than one floor and the parking lot should be on the rooftop.
Our concept (1st price), in response to the site, was to design a dynamic building that dialogues with the surroundings, by the materiality and direct visual relation with the existing pavilion. This dynamic comes to a climax with the new landmark „head“ in the main entrance, that glances the main commercial street. Another main idea was to create a patio as a reminder of the three towers, so that desconstruct the massive volume and bring natural light and green spaces to the inside of the building. The EK3 ist today delined by import elements like: the entrance head, the glass roof, the central patio with three oak trees and the dinamic ramp to the parking lot.
